How do you avoid digitizing a broken process?

Before digitizing, we redesign the process. We eliminate duplicate steps, clarify responsibilities, and decide which data is official; only then do we translate the flow into software. Automating a broken process just makes it faster at producing errors and more expensive to fix later.
